Poofy skirts are my jam

Oh man, don't you just love a poofy, pleated skirt?

I've spent the last few months thinking about making a big, poofy, wonderful skirt. I've got one that is blue and white and I wear it constantly. One of the first things I did when I bought a sewing machine was to alter the skirt to fit at my waist, to make the most of the A-line.

Lately, I've been seeing so many wonderful, full, A-line skirts. I have to get in on this!

In particular, I'm quite taken with this Ted Baker example.

Work dress

Damn! This dress is so good I almost wish I had work tomorrow so I could show it off!

This is the perfect summer work dress. And comfortable. The main fabric is a white and blue-almost-black patterned stretch cotton. It has on or two percent synthetic fibers that give it just a little bit if stretch. I lined the bodice with white cotton and the skirt with white bemberg. The contrast binding is black dupioni silk.

Only so much I can do to minimize my backside but I think the yoke goes a long way to balancing top and bottom.

Sexiest muslin ever

Here's what I've cooked up since the last muslin. This is just another muslin but I'm really happy with it! I can't wait to make the actual dress.

For the final version, I'm going to move the vertical lines to the outward side of the seams like I did on the front.

I'm also thinking of including another line down the centre front.

Yes/No? I was originally going to add binding on the neck and armholes, too, but I think that would be overkill.

Too much?
